I released a free app on Android Market called Pubtran London (it's a London journey planner), what are the best ways to promote it? I mean besides posting about it here ;-).
Users who want the functionality my app provides probably already use some other app, that is possibly worse than my app. How can I make them switch?

Start a blog on your app or if you already have a blog, write about it on your blog. Write about the features, write about changes in new versions and compare your app with other apps in the niche.
ReplyDeleteNext, submit posts to Ycombinator, Reddit and similar places where people notice things and read through, religiously. These are strong communities and your app might just land into a tech talk show. You will find many people online on Reddit, YCombinator and Twitter too, who have a strong voice (bloggers, other enthusiasts) and would like to review your app. That is half the job done (i.e. spreading the word).
For the rest, sit back and relax and see what happens. Finally, if your app is good, it will be spotted. It only takes some time. This is the least you can do to reduce that time.
Another thing, consider submitting it to markets other than the Google Android Market as well. Never miss a chance to promote and put your app out there for people to see and think, "that is something I can use!".

You can also submit it to some Android Blogs,

You can try an Android app promotion service, for example Promoted Apps by AppBrain: http://www.appbrain.com/info/advertise
ReplyDeleteIt is cost per install (CPI), so you only pay for full installs not for clicks.
